The study sought to investigate the influence of work life balance practices on employee motivation in public universities and specifically at Rongo University in Kenya. The university was chosen as a case study area because statistics from the human resource department on employee performance appraisal, 2017 – 2019 indicated that most of its employees had shown signs of low motivation such as high rates of absenteeism, lateness and poor customer focus. Case study research design was applied in the study and in this case, there was an intensive descriptive and holistic analysis of Rongo University as a single entity. The investigation of the single entity was helpful in gaining insight into the larger cases. The indicators that were used in the study were dependent care, family support, and child care. The study established that family responsibilities programs influences motivation. This was by ensuring that employees have family support such as medical cover that extends to dependents even though it needed a little enhancement as some workers were not happy with the value of provision. The findings of the study established that family responsibility programs had positive influence on motivation of employees within the public institution of higher learning. The family responsibility programs were present even though enhancement was required on compassionate leave and counseling programs for the workers within the institution.en_US
