Item Challenges of E-health adoption and integration on maternal health in Uasin Gishu County Hospitals(2019-09) Kosgei, Silas Kipkurui; Ronoh, Lamek; Adoyo, Maureen AtienoE-health has fundamentality shifted the way patient information is accessed and shared across health systems. In Kenya maternal health care still faces challenges including, lack of access to quality maternal health services antenatal, delivery, and post-natal services. Adoption and integration into maternal health is expected to contribute to delivery of Maternal Health and consequently increasing life expectancy at birth. Relatively few maternal health care providers have fully adopted E-Health, in Uasin Gishu County low diffusion is due partly to the complexity of information Technology investment, which goes beyond acquiring technology to changing work processes and cultures, and ensuring that physicians, nurses, and other staff use it. Manual record keeping associated with medical facilities have been a subject of medical debates owing to the confusion it has caused medical practitioners. The study was guided by the following objective; to identify challenges in adoption and integration of e-health on maternal health delivery in Uasin Gishu County. The study was carried out in sub county hospitals, in Uasin-Gishu County. The study subject was drawn from the target population of 408 respondents from the six sub county hospitals including Ainabkoi, Kapsaret, Kesses, Moiben, Soy and Turbo. The sample size was 124 calculated using 30% formula of Mugenda Mugenda (2003).This study employed a case study research design and used both questionnaire and interview schedule in data collection. Analysis was done using inferential statistics; mean, standard deviation, and in support of Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 22.0 to generate findings and emerging trends in the data that was collected. Based on the study findings the study concludes that practical implementation of change in healthcare sector actually requires an extensive stakeholder engagement to deliver innovations in patient care and achieve sustainability of change and therefore stakeholders can play an influential role both as promoters, and as inhibitors of organizational change. The study recommends that measures to improve the application of e-health needs to be put in place. Application like enhancing healthcare services availability and access; improving health quality, safety and outcomes and increasing service efficiency, productivity and cost effectiveness were found to be least achieved. In order to rip the maximum benefits that e-health offers, there is need to put measures in place that will ensure these benefits are achieved.Item Contextualized Strategies in Handling Medical Products, Vaccine and Technologies for Millennium’s Sustainable Achievements in HIV/AIDS Care(International Journal of Health Sciences and Research, 2020-06) Adoyo, Maureen AtienoRealization of global health goals is dependent on how efficiently and effectively ill health resulting from Non-Communicable Diseases, emerging and reemerging infectious disease including HIV/AIDs are handled within health systems. Medical products, vaccines and technologies management for access and appropriate use is considered critical towards achievement of quality service delivery. Diversity in health systems context may not allow for uniform conformity to health goals and human rights thus this study purposed to assess contextual strategies by various facilities in Kenya in managing medical products to achieve sustainable goals in the millennium. The study focused on three themes; accessibility, management and diagnostics technology application. Health workers, incharges and County coordinators were considered suitable as study respondents and sampling was done using multistage techniques. Qualitative methodologies were employed to collect extensive data from individuals, program and event. The results indicated that stock out still exist although at a lower level of 34% and facilities applied innovative strategies such as borrowing across facilities (40%), special orders (33%), other drugs for opportunities infections were bought by clients (17%) and 10% did take any action. Computerization for stock management specific to HIV drugs was reported at 30%. Diagnostic technology was lagging with facilities referring clients, or taking sample and referring them elsewhere, while some tests were not utilized although important for patient management. Study recommends up-scaled implementation electronic management of medical supplies and investment in diagnostic technologies to realise quality services and better health outcomes.Item Influence of TV News Talk Shows on Female Student’s Participation in Politics: A Case of Rongo University, Kenya(International Research Journal of Rongo University (IJORU), 2023-10) Opee, Lydia Celestine; Otieno, Millicent Awuor; Adoyo, Maureen AtienoTV News Talk Shows are powerful media programs that can frame the way people perceive and think of society. The content of these talk shows creates, perpetuates narratives and influences how we consider men's and women's roles in public and private sectors. Women continue to lag in Kenyan political participation despite being the larger group in the country. The study focused on how the content of Kenyan news talk shows that is: JKL, Punchline and Crossfire influence female university students’ participation in politics. The study was guided by the following objectives: to establish how the language used in news talk shows influences female students’ participation in politics, and to determine how news talk shows topic of discussion influences female students’ participation in politics. The research aimed at working towards the achievement of SDG 5 gender equality. A descriptive Correctional research design was employed. A semi-structured questionnaire and one on one interview data collection technique were used to collect data from 356 female university students at Rongo University and six producers of TV news talk shows. The researcher employed snowballing and simple random techniques to sample the respondents respectively. Sample size was arrived at using Yamane formulae. Data collected was qualitatively analyzed through content analysis. Data was presented on graphs, pie charts and tables. The study found that language used on TV news talk shows discourages the majority of female students from participatingin politics. The topic of discussion selected by producers when female politicians are invited was established to be irrelevant to their political journey. The study recommends media houses to offer training for journalists on gender reporting that’ll ensure gender-balanced coverage of news talk shows. The government needs to put more effort into ensuring that it achieves gender equality by appointing women to political seats and encouraging their participation in politics.
